Prends Moi - the perfume that makes you thin

Veld's of Paris has come out with an intriguing new perfume. They call it "Prends Moi" which translates to "Take me".  The suggestive name though, is not what makes this perfume so interesting.  It's what the manufacturer says it will do.  They say it will help you lose weight.

According to their website, you should apply the perfume whenever you feel the need to snack.  They claim the product causes Beta-endorphins to be released, which will create a feeling of well-being and help to curb your appetite.

I will admit it sounds delicious, with top notes of bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit, middle floral notes like jasmine and lilac, and lusciously rich base notes of musk, vanilla and patchoulie.  I haven't scent-tested it myself, but I love those fragrances and I am sure the blend is exotically enchanting.  It might very well be that these fragrances do overwhelm any urgings from your taste buds.  But the claims for this perfume go even farther.

They also say that the perfume will interact with enzymes that are key to the breakdown of fat in the skin, and that Prends Moi will slim you locally, wherever you spray it on.

I don't doubt that the psychological factor in all this could be quite compelling, but I am still a bit skeptical as  to the claims of slimming and appetite suppression.  Consider this report, published in the NY Daily News:

Following a trial study by the Centre of Biological Research and Cutaneous Experimentation on women aged between 18 and 70, it is claimed that 75% considered the scent had a pleasant fragrance and they would wear it every day, while 70% felt it acting on their eating behavior
I think the most important thing to note is that a majority of women liked the scent and would wear it daily. But as you see, a large percentage also felt it helped with appetite control.

Prends Moi is available in the UK for £29.99.  It will soon be available worldwide. It isn't more expensive than most fragrances, but if it works to reduce and slim, it might be worth every penny.
