Talbots set me an interesting and fun task. Supposing I had a gift card for a $500 shopping spree on Talbots, what would I choose? I thought it would be easy. I am very qualified, I've been shopping as a vocation for years.
But the variety of styles and colors at Talbots meant that I could choose any kind of look I wanted - professional, formal, casual - and in colors to suit any mood or palette. Suddenly, I was faced with a bigger challenge than I had expected.
However, when I spied this item, I knew that the outfit had to be built around it.

I have always loved the classic lines of a peacoat and this coat ($169.00) stays true to that classic style while updating it for a fresh look. Tabbed sleeves and non-tradtional but oh-so-feminine colors modernize this favorite. I chose Peacock, which is blue but softer and richer than the traditional Navy.
The Bi-stretch front-zip pants ($119.00) provide all around comfort with a classic styling and fit. The pants in Ivory, which I selected, are fully lined. They are a versatile addition to any wardrobe that can be matched up with nearly any color, in any season.

Because I love color, the pants are the only sedate part of my outfit and under the coat I intend to wear the Ballet-neck tee in Rhododendron ($34.50). For comfort and style I shod my feet in lovely Square-toe leather flats ($99.00) in Rhododendron to match the top. A Dark Porcelain blue reversible belt ($34.00) offsets the ivory and a Paisley scarf ($44.00) completes the outfit with its carefree print.

My grand total came to $499.50. I think I did pretty well in putting together an outfit that will take me into spring with style and flair. Why not try this yourself, and let your fashion sense guide you?
