NRC recommends cumulative study of Phthalates
It is well-known that phthalates have adverse health effects on humans. Until recently, phthalates were commonly found in some cosmetics, including nail polish, but many manufacturers have altered their formulas to exclude them. But do you know how many common items you are exposed to daily that contain these harmful chemicals?
A report from the National Research Council concludes that the EPA should study the cumulative effects of multiple types of phthalates and other chemicals found in many household products like, cosmetics, plastic food containers, toys and even building materials.
Long-term exposure to these chemicals should be further tested and studied. It is known that phthalates can cause birth defects and have a risk factor for harming the reproductive development of male fetuses. A cumulative study would focus on whether humans are exposed to multiple phthalates at one time - since they are found in so many common household products - and whether adverse health effects could be linked to exposure.

Orange Ginger Aromatherapy Sugar Scrub

Christmas was great for all and especially for me. Whenever I get some nice new "smelly stuff", I am happy. I love to get new bath products and scents to try out and have found many of my favorites that way over the years.
I can't say enough good things about the Orange Ginger sugar scrub from Bath and Bodyworks that Santa stuffed in my stocking. I love a sugar scrub. After exfoliating, skin feels so smooth and soft - it's like getting new skin!
The scent is just the right blend of orangey-citrus and spicy ginger. It's a good, strong scent too, so you carry a hint of it with you throughout the day. I think the fragrance is a perfect blend for winter, warm and spicy with a hint of sunshine. Orange Ginger is part of Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy line, and is described as "Energizing". I think we can all use some energizing at this time of year.
Regardless of which scrub you use, remember that it's especially important this time of year to exfoliate and moisturize to keep skin looking its best. You can also purchase Orange Ginger body lotion to complement your scrub and layer your fragrance.

Some Cosmetic Ingredients May Cause Birth Defects
Pregnant women watch what you put on your face! That's the recommendation after a study at the Imperial College London showed that some cosmetics may contain ingredients that cause birth defects.
It's hard enough to be pregnant - clothes don't fit, feet swell, and you have to watch everything you eat and do to ensure the health of your baby. Modern women take pride in continuing to look beautiful, put-together and professional. Often their makeup is part of that look.
Of course, a lot of the chemicals indicated by the study to be dangerous are ones we've known about for a long time, and some manufacturers have removed some of them from products, but others may still be lurking in your cosmetics. Without a labeling system in place, it's hard to know.
Although there is no cause for panic, according to the researchers, companies should institute a system of labeling that will let pregnant women know which products are safest for their unborn children.
Here's just another good reason to look for all natural makeup and skin care products. Whether you're pregnant or whether you have someone on your gift list who is, be sure to choose wisely when selecting personal care products and cosmetics.
